09/10 – What We’re Drinking
DON – Before we opened we were given the opportunity to buy a case of the 1999 Altamura Cabernet Sauvignon ($157) and I opened a bottle recently to find it is an unbelievable smooth, big black currant and spicy cabernet. This is a ten year-old Napa Valley Cabernet that is still going strong.
NITA – I like a Cabernet with big dark fruit, good balance and a nice long finish. The 2006 Surh Luchtel “Stagecoach Vineyard” Cabernet Sauvignon ($71) from the esteemed Stagecoach Vineyard in Napa Valley is a perfect example of just such a Cabernet.

What does °BRIX mean?
Brix [briks] (symbol °Bx): A measurement of the sugar content of grapes indicating the degree of the grapes' ripeness (meaning sugar level) at harvest. Most table-wine grapes are harvested between 21 and 25 °Bx.
